Director and Principal Teacher: Miss Kelly Clarey Dip. PDTD RAD AISTD
Kelly Clarey, also known as Mickela Clarey (official name), was introduced to dance on her 3rd birthday by her mother Patricia Veale. Kelly trained with her mother in ballet, modern dance and tap achieving all ballet examinations up to advanced level.
At the age of 16 she trained at ‘The Leeds Dance Centre’ and achieved examinations in ISTD ballet, modern, tap and national dance, all to advanced level. At the age of 17 she was accepted at ‘London Studio Centre’ where she trained for two years in professional dance. At the age of 19 she started her professional career in dance, featuring in productions such as:
– ‘Le Baron’ Paris – Principle Dancer / Dance Captain
– ‘Moulin Rouge’ Paris – Dancer / Soloist / Dance Captain
– ‘Choreographer Jackie Deschamp’ – TV shows TF1, Channel +, ITV,
– Variety shows in France, Spain and Switzerland.
– Film – Documentry of ‘The Moulin Rouge’
– ‘Jubilation’ Bahamas – Principle Dancer / Assistant to Magician ‘Dirk Arther’
– ‘Atlanta’ Bahamas – Principle Dancer
After a 9 year career in professional dance Kelly returned home to help her mother in the school and trained in qualifying as a teacher reaching levels such as:
– The Dorothy Stevens School – Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing
– The Royal Academy of Dance’ London – Professional Dancers Teaching Diploma
Kelly has been a teacher at the school since 1998 and is a freelance teacher of The Royal Academy and choreographer. Patricia Veale sadly passed away in 2010. Kelly Clarey is very honoured to carry on the school in her mother’s name.

Contemporary teacher: Caroline Young BA (Hons), PGCE (QTS), NASENCO
Caroline trained from the age of 3 with Grace Hicks at The Suzanne School of Dancing in Andover, Hampshire in Ballet, Tap and Modern (ISTD and RAD). She was first introduced to contemporary dance whilst at 6th form college and went on to complete a BA (Hons) in Dance and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham. During this time Caroline worked on projects with Shobana Jeyasingh, Rambert Dance Company and Motionhouse developing a broad experience in contemporary dance.
After graduating with a 2:1 Caroline worked as a Production Coordinator for Granada Television before returning to dance to pursue a career in teaching. Caroline trained at the Royal Academy of Dance and gained her Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Dance (QTS) in 2005. Caroline worked as teacher in charge of dance in secondary schools in London for 10 years teaching GCSE and A Level Dance. She developed partnerships with the RAD, the Ballet Boyz and Rambert Dance Company to give students opportunities to work with professional dance companies. Previous students have gone on to professional dance college including The Laban Centre and London Contemporary Dance School.
Since moving to York in summer 2016 was appointed Deputy Assistant Principal responsible for Inclusion and teacher of dance in a local secondary school. She is thrilled to be teaching contemporary at The Patricia Veale School of Dance.
Little Dance Academy & Teaching assistant: Miss Lotty
Charlotte Law trained from the age of 3 at The Dorothy Stevens School of Dance in Halifax, in Ballet RAD. Charlotte succeeded in achieving all RAD graded and vocational exams with distinction up to Advanced 2 level. Charlotte is the teacher of the little school and teaching assistant in all ballet levels. Charlotte is the teacher of The Little Dance Academy at Little Green Rascals.
